2nd Annual Manic Mando at Hinson Lake

December 6 @ 9:00 am 12:00 pm

For those who participated last year and weren’t abused enough and those who feel that you are up for a challenge. Coming back to you on December 6, 2025, is an event so zany, so proven to be unpredictable, you’ll need to reconsider your first and second instincts on the tee pad.  Ladies and gentlemen, brace yourselves for the 2nd Manic Mando Disc Golf Tournament at Hinson Lake, hosted by none other than the jesters of the fairway, the Richmond County Disc Golf Group.

Just like last year, for a trifling $5 player fee and a toy – that’s right, just five bucks, or 500 pennies, or even 20 quarters if you’re feeling particularly flush – you can be part of disc golf history. And by “history,” we mean the most delightfully bonkers round of disc golf you’ll ever participate in or spectate. Divisions are set up by ratings, ensuring that whether you’re a seasoned pro or your disc flights are more unpredictable than a cat in a room full of laser pointers, there’s a place for you. What about the toy?

Your $5 fee allows you to come to the registration tent.  Tis’ the season plastic chunking friends!  We have partnered with Midder’s Toy Box to collect Christmas toys for many deserving children in the area. Please prepare to donate a toy (or toys) to assist with this fine charity. If $5 isn’t enough, you are welcomed to purchase mulligans. Mulligans are highly recommended to help keep your score near par.

All registration money will be paid out to the participants, making this event a veritable Santa Claus of disc golf – except, instead of sliding down your chimney, we’re chucking discs into baskets with manic precision. Payouts? Oh, we’ve got payouts. Multiple payouts by division, because we’re just that generous. Or maybe just that mad.

Now, let’s talk course features. Ever played a round where the mandatories include looping your disc around a 12ft Santa? No? Well, buckle up. Hinson Lake’s natural beauty will be enhanced with obstacles that not only challenge your physical prowess but also tickle your funny bone. Imagine aiming your throw under a subtly placed limbo stick or flip a wooden nickel to select the left or right mando path. Pure, unadulterated fun.

Participants are encouraged to don their wackiest disc golf attire. We hope to have an outrageous amount of photos for the archives.

So, mark your calendars, prep your discs, and maybe do some stretching – things are going to get kooky. The Manic Mando at Hinson Lake isn’t just a competition; it’s a celebration of the joy, the madness, the sheer unpredictability of disc golf and a great opportunity to donate more toys than could fit in Santa’s sleigh.

Richmond County Disc Golf Group Hosts Successful Manic Mando Toy Collection Tournament

Richmond County, NC – The Richmond County Disc Golf Group proudly hosted the Manic Mando Toy Collection tournament on December 7th at Hinson Lake Disc Golf course. The event, organized in partnership with Midder’s Toy Box, aimed to collect toys for families in Richmond County and Western North Carolina during the holiday season.

Participants in the tournament were required to pay a minimal registration fee and bring at least one toy for donation. A total of 31 individuals signed up for the unique event, showing their support for the cause.

The Manic Mando tournament featured a specially designed course layout with Mandatory (Mando) routes on 18 out of the 19 holes. This challenging setup provided local disc golfers with an exciting and competitive experience. To further support the toy collection, mulligans were available for purchase, leading to an additional 38 toys being bought for the cause.

Chris McDonald, the president of the Richmond County Disc Golf Group, expressed his gratitude to all involved in the event, stating, “We accomplished our goal, and we have sights on an even bigger event for next year. Thank you to everyone involved and for everything contributed to the cause. Truly blessed by this Disc Golf community.”

Midder’s Toy Box, the partner organization for the tournament, is a toy collection effort founded in memory of young Pete Midder Mines who passed away at 18months old. Established after Midder’s passing in 2019, the initiative aims to bring joy and happiness to children in need during the holiday season. The organization has implemented an application process to assist struggling parents during Christmas.

The Richmond County Disc Golf Group, Inc., founded in Spring 2021, is dedicated to organizing disc golf tournaments and events in the region. Comprising disc golf enthusiasts, the group strives to promote the growth and development of the sport within the community.
